When I was a child, I remember reading "the Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It captured my imagination and entered my dreams.
“Sometimes since I've been in the garden I've looked up through the trees at the sky and I have had a strange feeling of being happy as if something was pushing and drawing in my chest and making me breathe fast” Frances Hodgson Burnett
The magic of finding an overgrown secret garden behind a hidden doorway became reality when I was taken to the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall.
At this time it was only just open to the public and in the infancy of restoration.
I remember creeping vines revealing ramshackle glasshouses, rambling honeysuckle hiding a romantic summerhouse and a Jurassic tropical jungle in the mysterious hidden valley.
These memories have stayed with me and have inspired my new Secret Garden collection for 2020.
“Magic is always pushing and drawing and making things out of nothing. Everything is made out of magic, leaves and trees, flowers and birds, badgers and foxes and squirrels and people. So it must be all around us. In this garden - in all the places.” Frances Hodgson Burnett
