Amethyst

If you were born in February your zodiac sign is either Aquarius or Pisces and, traditionally, your birthstone is Amethyst.

Amethyst is also linked to the Air element and I have used it throughout the Air Element collection.

Worn by Kings and the Clergy throughout history, Amethyst was once considered more rare and valuable than a diamond. One legend says that Saint Valentine wore an Amethyst signet ring with the image of Cupid carved into the gem.

The name Amethyst derives from the ancient Greek word amethystos which translates roughly to "not drunken". Amethyst was considered to be a strong antidote against intoxication. This can also be interpreted as promoting intellectual clarity.

Medieval knights from Europe carried Amethyst to help them keep a cool head during battle.

In Tibet, Buddhists think of Amethyst as a sacred stone and often craft rosaries from Amethyst beads.

In China, Amethyst is also a powerful tool. Feng Shui masters use Amethyst to ward off negative energy.
